A fire caused severe damage to Sip & Dunk on Kearny Avenue this morning, forcing the closure of the eatery, Kearny Fire Department Deputy Chief Robert Osborn said. The fire is believed to have started in the circuit breaker room just off the kitchen area, according to Osborn.
No one was injured in the blaze, and firefighters rescued a dog that had been in the second-floor apartment above the Sip & Dunk. Osborn says the fire spread through voids in the walls of the building, leading to the damage in the eatery and the smoke damage on the second floor.

KEARNY - A two-alarm fire in a town coffee shop yesterday left two residents homeless last night, but no one was injured - including two dogs that firefighters saved from the blaze.
Firefighters responded to the Sip-N-Dunk on Kearny Avenue on a 9:39 a.m. alarm and found heavy smoke, Capt. Michael Karlok said, adding that a second alarm was called due to the threat the fire would spread to an attached building.
Firefighters entering the two-story building found the blaze was in an office at the rear of the coffee shop and quickly extinguished it, Karlok said.
The firefighters' fast work contained the damage to the office, though the rest of the coffee shop suffered smoke damage, Karlok said.
Residents living in the building's second-floor of the building between Patterson Street and Wilson Avenue were not be able to return home last night because the building's utilities had to be turned off, Karlok said.
Firefighter John Donovan found the two dogs in the apartment and Donovan and Inspector Chuck Kerr carried them from the building, Karlok said.
